The honest version of this comparison is that most networks start on shared Class C hosting and stay there quite happily. You buy addresses, you point domains at them, and somebody else worries about kernel updates. The moment that stops working is usually specific and recognisable: you want a crawler, a scheduler or a headless browser running next to the sites; a client's stack needs a PHP extension, a queue worker or a database version the panel does not offer; or one heavy project has started to affect everything else you host and you would rather it had its own walls.
That is where KVM matters as a technical choice rather than an acronym. KVM is full hardware virtualisation: your instance boots its own kernel with memory and CPU reserved for it, not borrowed from a shared pool the way container-based virtualisation works. A neighbour cannot consume your RAM, and you can load kernel modules, change network parameters and run a firewall of your own design, because the operating system genuinely belongs to you. Resource isolation stops being a promise in a terms-of-service document and becomes a property of the hypervisor.
The third argument is scale. A single instance can carry a large number of sites, and the addresses in front of them still come out of the same non-consecutive European Class C pool, so the network keeps its diversity while the administration collapses into one machine you can script against. One SSH key, one deployment pipeline, one backup routine, instead of a control panel you have to click through per account.
A VPS on its own is one machine with one address, which is exactly the footprint a diverse network is trying to avoid. The addresses are what turn it into a network: ordered separately, bound to the instance, and drawn from the same European pool as our shared product.

European Class C addresses are ordered alongside the VPS and bound to it, between 2 and 500 per instance, 500 being the ceiling of the European pool, which holds 500 dedicated addresses across 1,300+ distinct Class C blocks in total. The blocks are non-consecutive, so two sites on the same machine can still answer from third octets that have nothing to do with each other.
The band rate applies to the whole allocation, not only to the addresses above the threshold. Crossing a boundary lowers the price on every IP you already hold. Root access is only useful if the first hour is not spent installing prerequisites. Every European instance can be deployed from a ready image instead of an empty distribution.

One rule applies to every one of those builds, and we would rather state it here than in the small print: outbound SMTP ports are closed on all VPS instances. That is deliberate. An IP pool sold on the strength of its reputation cannot also be an open relay, and one compromised machine sending mail would damage addresses that hundreds of other customers depend on. Transactional email runs through an external provider over its API or authenticated submission endpoint: a five-minute configuration change in most applications, and a better deliverability outcome than self-hosted mail achieves anyway.
